The presentation Nanostructured Fertilizers: Sustainable Innovation in Response to the Productive Challenges of the Agroindustry offered a detailed exploration of the role of nanotechnology as a strategic tool to address current agricultural production challenges and improve nutrient use efficiency. In a context where increasing food demand, soil degradation, and the environmental impacts of excessive agro-input use require more precise and sustainable solutions, nanostructured fertilizers emerge as an innovative alternative capable of transforming traditional agricultural systems. The speakers explained the basic principles of these fertilizers, highlighting how their nanometric-scale structure allows for a more controlled and efficient release of nutrients, improving plant absorption while reducing losses due to leaching or volatilization.
One of the central themes was the assessment of the agronomic benefits associated with this technology, including increased productivity, optimized resource use, reduced application frequency, and positive impacts on soil health. Examples of applications in high-impact agroindustrial crops were presented, and the competitive advantages over conventional fertilizers were analyzed—particularly in terms of environmental sustainability and profitability for producers. The speakers also addressed the potential of these products to adapt to different soil and climate conditions and to the demands of modern precision- and efficiency-based agricultural systems.
The presentation also highlighted the technical and regulatory challenges facing the adoption of nanostructured fertilizers, such as the need for further research on their field behavior, long-term environmental impact studies, and the development of regulations that ensure their safe and responsible use. The importance of promoting technological transfer processes, rural training, and collaboration between industry, academia, and producers was emphasized to facilitate large-scale implementation.
