Abstract

The presentation "Revolutionizing the Floriculture Sector: Automation of Rose Counting Using a Cable-Cam in Restricted Areas for Drones," delivered by Engineer Alexander Bolaños Cervantes, addressed the challenges faced by the floriculture industry, particularly in the accurate and efficient counting of roses grown in greenhouses. This traditionally manual process is slow and prone to errors, which can affect planning and decision-making in production.

Engineer Bolaños introduced the concept of Industry 4.0 and 5.0, highlighting the importance of digitalization, interconnectivity, automation, and personalization. In Industry 5.0, the emphasis is on the interaction between humans and machines, prioritizing creativity and resilience.

One of the innovations presented was the Cable-Cam system, a platform of cameras mounted on a cable that traverses the cultivation area. Unlike drones, this technology allows for the counting of roses in restricted spaces, overcoming obstacles and capturing high-resolution

images. These images are analyzed using deep learning algorithms, enabling fast and reliable counting.

The benefits of this automation are significant. Accurate data on the number of roses at each growth stage is obtained, eliminating the need for hours of manual work. This not only improves operational efficiency but also reduces the risk of damage to plants and minimizes personnel exposure to potentially hazardous environments.

Engineer Bolaños also addressed concerns about the impact of automation on the human factor. He clarified that this technology does not seek to replace the connection of floriculturists with the plants but rather to free up their time so they can focus on higher value-added areas, such as refining cultivation techniques and innovating new varieties.

In conclusion, the automation of rose counting using Cable-Cam represents a revolution in the floriculture sector. This proposal not only optimizes operations and improves product quality but also creates a safer and more satisfying work environment for all involved
