Currently, the efficient management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is a global concern due to constant technological growth and the rapid obsolescence of electronic devices. The lack of accurate information regarding the generation and management of WEEE in Barrancabermeja highlights the need to address this issue. Mapping WEEE plays a crucial role in identifying critical generation points, tracking waste flows, planning management, and complying with regulations. Additionally, it can foster public awareness about the importance of proper WEEE management.
The study aims to determine the source and distribution of WEEE in Barrancabermeja, with specific objectives such as characterizing the sources of these wastes and developing an interactive map. The methodology includes surveys, interviews, and data analysis to collect information on the generation and management of WEEE in households, educational institutions, and health facilities. Subsequently, an interactive map will be designed to visualize the geographical distribution, quantity, frequency, and types of WEEE in the city.
The creation of this map will not only serve as a management tool for local authorities but will also promote transparency, citizen participation, and informed decision-making, as well as optimize resources in WEEE management in Barrancabermeja.
